The Company
Rapyd Cloud solves a problem that has plagued WordPress site owners for years: finding hosting that can actually handle high-performance, dynamic websites.
Founded in 2022 by Michael Eisenwasser and Tom Cheddadi, Rapyd Cloud launched publicly in January 2024 with a laser focus on the websites that traditional hosting providers struggle to support. The company specializes in managed WordPress hosting for sites that demand superior performance and scalability.
Complex, dynamic sites like social media networks, e-learning platforms, and membership sites often crawl to a halt on traditional hosting platforms, but they thrive on Rapyd's optimized infrastructure.
More recently, Rapyd Cloud enhanced its high-performance infrastructure by integrating Enterprise Cloudflare CDN, enabling faster global delivery and stronger edge-level protection for dynamic WordPress sites.
Operating on a subscription model with plans ranging from $29 to $599 per month, plus custom enterprise solutions, Rapyd Cloud serves customers globally. Their client base spans the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, France, India, and Australia, following the typical geographic distribution of a successful SaaS company.
Rapyd Cloud exists because our previous customers at BuddyBoss were constantly having performance issues and couldn't find adequate hosts. We saw a real need in the market for hosting that could scale with dynamic, user-heavy WordPress sites."

The Challenge
Billing solution complexity
Michael and his team weren't strangers to the complexities of running a subscription business.
For 14 years, they operated BuddyBoss, one of the most recognized community platforms on WordPress, until its acquisition in 2024. This extensive experience gave them intimate knowledge of every pain point that plagues growing SaaS companies when it comes to billing infrastructure.
When they started building Rapyd Cloud, they knew exactly what they wanted to avoid. Their previous billing system was a patchwork of solutions that created constant operational headaches.
Built on WooCommerce with separate integrations for Stripe, PayPal, upsells and for data reporting, the system was functional but far from optimal for a sophisticated subscription business.
We felt like our billing system was a complicated solution. A lot of different moving parts all tied together, hard to manage, with very little insight into what was going on."

Tax compliance woes
Tax compliance consumes valuable resources. Managing tax obligations across multiple US states and international jurisdictions can be a constant drain on time and energy.
Each region brings different tax rates, filing requirements, and compliance rules that demand attention away from core business activities.
Hosting requires sophisticated pricing models with upgrades, downgrades, and add-on purchases for things like extra storage or enhanced security. Their previous setup made these essential customer actions challenging to implement and manage.
Understanding critical business metrics became an exercise in analytics blindness. Churn rates, expansion revenue, and customer behavior data required juggling multiple third-party integrations. Even then, gaps in data visibility made strategic decision-making challenging.
As a business owner, you want your main focus to be on serving your customers and finding ways to increase revenue and reduce costs. Taxes are time-consuming and it’s not the most productive thing to spend your time on."

The Solution
When evaluating payment solutions for Rapyd Cloud, the team conducted thorough research across multiple providers.
The evaluation process ultimately came down to two options: Paddle and FastSpring.
The technical implementation advantage was clear from the start. Implementing Fastspring would have required significant development work to build APIs and custom systems for Rapyd's complex billing requirements. Paddle's APIs provided the sophisticated functionality they needed right out of the box.
Beyond the technical capabilities, Paddle offered an integrated analytics powerhouse. Unlike other solutions that would require separate analytics subscriptions, Paddle had retention and analytic technology integrated; comprehensive business intelligence without additional tools or costs.
The Merchant of Record (MoR) benefits sealed the decision.
Paddle's MoR model eliminated all tax compliance work from their plate. No more worrying about different tax rates across jurisdictions, no more filing requirements, no more compliance headaches.
Having responsive support when it mattered made the difference, too. Coming from the open-source world, where support often means community forums and hoping for the best, having dedicated support channels through Slack and email was a game-changer.
Having support that can help us find workarounds and solutions, and simply having that level of responsive help available, has been really valuable."

The Implementation
Shortly after Rapyd Cloud made their decision, they were implemented swiftly onto the platform, taking advantage of comprehensive API documentation and hands-on guidance.
Instead of piecing together multiple systems and hoping they'd work together, Paddle provided an integrated solution that handled their complex billing requirements from launch.
The Results
Subscription flexibility transformed
Paddle's dashboard functionality transformed how Rapyd Cloud customers interact with their subscriptions.
Instead of requiring support tickets for plan changes or add-on purchases, customers can easily upgrade and purchase additional services themselves through an integrated dashboard experience.
This friction-free approach directly impacts Rapyd's bottom line every month.
Every month when we see the increases in our revenue, a portion of it is expansion revenue from customers just upgrading through the dashboard, which Paddle allows us to do."

Automatic Retention Covered
Failed and prepaid cards resulting in failed payments and churn had once been a huge problem for the Rapyd team. Paddle’s Retain has changed that.
The platform now intelligently handles failed payment recovery through optimized retry logic and customer communication, preventing revenue loss without manual intervention.
Customer communications are streamlined across the board too. All subscription-related emails, payment confirmations, and billing notifications are handled automatically by Paddle, reducing support overhead and ensuring consistent customer experience.
Business intelligence that drives strategy
Metrics, Paddle’s business analytic toolset, now provides Michael and his team with deep insights into customer behavior, churn patterns, and expansion opportunities that enable data-driven strategic decisions.
Instead of guessing about business performance, Rapyd's team can see exactly what's working and what needs attention.
Having insight into everything going on allows you to make decisions all the time. It's intangible, but having that visibility is very important for running the business."

The Future
Rapyd Cloud plans to introduce additional hosting add-ons beyond its current storage and security offerings.
Paddle's flexible product management system will support this expansion by enabling seamless add-on purchases within existing customer subscriptions.
The company continues leveraging Paddle's analytics and retention capabilities to optimize their subscription business as they scale globally.
With clear visibility into customer behavior and business performance, they can make strategic decisions about reducing churn and increasing expansion revenue.
We have some metrics we're always focused on, including reducing churn and increasing expansion revenue. Being able to track all that through Paddle as we grow is very useful."
