Paddle Forward: Spring '25 product updates

2024 was a big year for Paddle, but as our Chief Product Officer, Stu, outlined during the latest Paddle Forward, 2025 is going to be even bigger.

Building on our significant achievements last year - including Alipay for subscriptions, local South Korean payments, one-click Apple Pay & Google Pay, a streamlined one-page checkout, and our brand-new Customer Portal - we're now leveling up across the board.

Here's what's coming:

  • 5x the number of alternative payment methods, including Pix in Brazil and UPI in India.
  • A new design system for a consistent, beautiful UI across all of Paddle (Including Dark Mode capability).
  • Expanded billing models and enhanced retention tools with cardless trials and checkout recovery.
  • Data-driven insights and recommendations at your fingertips.

Our vision for 2025 is clear: more ways for buyers to pay, a slick and seamless customer experience, and smarter tools to help you operate better and grow your revenue.

In short, we're moving faster and building bolder.

Industry trends

Before we get into it. Let's first take a look at the wider market, economic and legislative picture:

  • Global compliance is an ever-changing landscape, particularly for subscription-based businesses in the EU and the US and those selling into Brazil and India.
  • After several years of volatility, SaaS growth rates are stabilizing at 18% YoY.
  • Change is constant when it comes to monetization, thanks to new AI tools and capabilities. But AI has the potential to erode SaaS margins
  • For mobile apps selling on the web, this web revenue stream is accelerating across every region and category.

Paddle x RevenueCat integration (Beta release)

On that last trend, we're witnessing significant momentum in the Web2App approach, with more app developers leveraging web platforms as primary growth engines.

We're excited to announce our new integration with RevenueCat, enabling joint customers to consolidate all subscription data across both web and mobile into a single, comprehensive view within the RevenueCat dashboard.

You can sign up for the trial here.

To bring this to life, our friends at Runna, joint Paddle and RevenueCat customers, share their thoughts on the update.

Enhanced payments management & localization

Our Payments team is laser-focused on delivering a seamless checkout experience, market-leading payment acceptance, and world-class tax compliance to help you effectively collect revenue from your customers worldwide.

Revenue recovery optimization

To maximize your payment success rates, we've built in-house payment orchestration that gives each transaction the best chance of success.

Rather than relying on a single payment provider, Paddle connects to multiple providers across different regions and markets, automatically selecting the optimal route for each transaction.

When payments fail, our system retries with different providers or accounts—meaning buyers don't experience declined payments, and you don't lose sales.

We've also introduced a real-time card updater that retrieves updated card details and retries failed payments without disrupting the payment flow, resulting in fewer declines and more revenue recovered.

Expanded payment method localization

Research from McKinsey shows that companies that localize their payment methods, currencies, and checkout experiences can see conversion rates improve by as much as 25%. With this in mind, we're expanding our payment method offering 5x in 2025, focusing on emerging markets where payment preferences vary significantly:

  • Brazil: Adding Pix, which dominates local transactions (over 60% of online payments)
  • India: Integrating UPI, which has over 350 million users and more than 75% market share of all payments in India
  • China: Launching WeChat Pay to complement our successful Alipay offering for one-off and recurring payments.
  • Europe: Adding regional options like Blik in Poland and MB Way in Portugal

Our existing localization efforts are already showing impressive results. Since launching Alipay for subscriptions, we've seen around 89% of buyers choosing it as their preferred payment method in China.

Gaming mods business NexusMods experienced a 9x conversion increase for their customers in China after implementing this option.

Similarly, our South Korean payment methods (KakaoPay, Naver Pay, PayCo, Samsung Pay, and 22 domestic card brands) have helped early access customers achieve up to an 8% increase in checkout conversions for Korean Won transactions.

Customer portal & subscription management enhancements

Transaction revisions

We've rolled out transaction revisions in the Customer Portal, allowing your customers to update their name, address, or add business information to an invoice directly. They can even add VAT details and automatically receive tax refunds—saving you valuable support time while helping them stay compliant.

Invoice improvements

Two exciting updates to our invoicing capabilities:

  1. Invoice reminders: This feature sends your customers a polite reminder halfway between the invoice issue date and due date (provided that midpoint is more than four days out)—a simple, effective way to reduce late payments without manual intervention.
  2. New currencies: Canadian and Australian Dollar support is coming soon to invoicing on Paddle Billing, with more currencies planned, opening up new opportunities for global growth.

Subscription management features

  • Cardless trials: Soon you'll be able to offer free trials without requiring payment method information upfront, reducing sign-up friction and allowing more users to explore your products more easily.
  • Checkout recovery: Paddle Billing will soon support checkout recovery to bring back customers who abandon their purchases. If a user drops off at checkout, we'll send a friendly reminder email 60 minutes later, with the option to include a one-time discount. We'll also offer webhook functionality for custom recovery flows.

DX improvements

Enhanced API security

In the coming weeks, you'll be able to create API keys with customized permission combinations that make sense for your specific needs.

Whether you're building an internal dashboard or integrating with third-party tools, you can now ensure you provide the lowest privilege necessary. For the security-conscious, you'll also be able to set automatic key expiration, and we'll be rolling out secret scanning to ensure your Paddle API keys remain secure on platforms like GitHub.

Webhook simulator enhancements

Our webhook simulator now supports creating simulations with an extensive array of configuration options.

You can connect to real price data, simulate buyers in specific countries, or test what happens when customers upgrade subscriptions or when payments fail. This makes integrating and testing quicker and more comprehensive than ever before.

Paddle MCP server

We're excited to announce the immediate availability of Paddle's MCP server, which transforms how you can build and manage your business through AI interfaces like Claude and Cursor. This powerful tool enables you to:

  • Create products and configure pricing with natural language commands
  • Fetch and analyze subscription data
  • Generate visualizations of payment failure reasons
  • Troubleshoot issues with your Paddle integration

The Paddle MCP server opens up new ways to interact with, analyze, and troubleshoot your Paddle data in your own workflows, making development and business analysis more intuitive and efficient.

Watch Dan's demo below.

New design system

We're introducing a comprehensive design system that brings visual and functional consistency across all our tools. This isn't just about aesthetics—it's about creating a more unified, intuitive experience across the entire Paddle platform.

Dashboard & documentation redesign

The first place you'll see our new design system is the Paddle Dashboard, with a cleaner, more minimal look that promotes clarity and ease of use. We're also applying the same consistent design to Paddle Docs, making it feel like a natural extension of the product experience.

Accessibility improvements

We're enhancing accessibility with better contrast, clearer focus states, full support for keyboard navigation, screen readers, and more. These improvements help users with specific needs while making the platform better for everyone.

Dark mode

And yes, dark mode is coming! Whether you're working late, looking for something easier on the eyes, or just prefer the look, you'll be able to choose the mode that suits you best.

Retain dashboard integration

Our Retain features, which help with payment recovery and cancellation flows, add millions of dollars to Paddle sellers' revenue every month.

This year, we're bringing these features directly into the Paddle dashboard, allowing you to:

  • Manage your Retain setup in one place
  • Configure new features without leaving the dashboard
  • Streamline setup with a new, simplified flow

Sellers who configure Retain can recover up to 20% more failed payments than before—directly increasing your bottom line.

Richard covers the new changes in the clip below.

Classic to billing migration

If you haven't explored Paddle Billing yet, now is the time.

With multi-product subscriptions, improved invoicing, 1-page checkout, saved payment methods, and the Customer Portal, Paddle Billing unlocks real business value for our customers.

We're launching an early access program for a new migration experience designed to make the transition from Classic to Billing smoother than ever.

This in-dashboard migration experience gives Paddle customers confidence, clarity, and control when moving their subscribers to Billing.

The four-step process allows you to:

  1. Prepare your account and integration with clear guidance
  2. Map classic subscription plans to your existing billing catalog
  3. Review pricing and add custom data
  4. Choose which subscribers to migrate

This new migration experience will be in early access for a small number of Paddle customers in May, before rolling out to more customers in late June, as touched in by Kendall in the video below.

Looking forward

These product updates represent our commitment to providing you with the tools and infrastructure needed to grow your business efficiently in 2025 and beyond.

Whether you're looking to expand globally, improve your customer experience, or streamline your development processes, our roadmap is designed to support your success.
